This sweet family contacted me in the fall to take their family portraits. It was important to them that their portraits were taken on their family's farm in Ijamsville where Rebecca (the mom) grew up and had many precious memories of her childhood. I was very interested in the farm's history. In fact, this farm was featured on Frederick County's Farm Tour a few years ago!
A little history Rebecca shared with me...the house and barn on the property were built in the early 1800's. It was originally a 6 room log cabin with 2 later additions. The property was later a slate quarry. Rebecca's grandfather bought the property from the Delaplaines in the early 1950's. He started with a small herd of cows and established a working dairy farm that grew to over 150!
I asked Rebecca if I could meet up with her a few weeks before the session to have her show me around and so I could plan for their session. I wanted to be sure I knew which areas of the farm were important to them so I could tell their story through the photographs. Preserving a family's history is why I do what I do. It made me so happy that I could be part of capturing their family in a place that meant so much to them. <3
