While newborns are my specialty, I also have extensive experience photographing families and high school seniors. I have grown up in the Frederick area and am quite familiar with many beautiful locations in and around this area that provide the perfect backdrop for your portraits. My session fee includes travel within a 30 mile radius of New Market, Maryland. Travelling outside of this area is possible, but I do charge a small travel fee.
How Long Will My Session Last?
Your family or senior portrait session will be approximately one hour, however I keep shooting until I have a nice variety for your gallery, so it is possible to have a session last 1 1/2 hours. I never want my clients to feel rushed during their session, and feel it is important for families with young children to have small breaks during the session so they enjoy the experience and do not become overwhelmed; enabling me to capture natural, joy-filled images of your family together.
What if My Kids Do Not Cooperate?
Sometimes parents tell me that their kids will not sit still for a photograph and will not smile, even when bribed! Firstly, my goal as a photographer is to capture the natural moments your family experiences together (hopefully capturing joy-filled moments, but there are times when kids may be more serious and pensive and these can be very powerful images, as well!). Capturing your child "sitting still and being good" is not my intention, nor do I think it is what you will want to hang on your walls in your home. Rather, I will engage the kids in a variety of games and get them up and moving during our session to get them to focus on enjoying the moment with their family, resulting in lots of joy-filled expressions. An image of your child laughing and genuinely having fun or snuggling up with Mom, Dad, sister, or brother and sharing a quiet moment is what I strive to capture rather than a forced smile that we often get when we ask them to "say cheese." As a former elementary school teacher, I work extremely well with children, and have lots of tricks up my sleeve to get even the most difficult child to cooperate! And, since I know you may want a couple posed images to use for holiday cards and the like, I do strive to get a few of these, too. I know Grandma will want at least one! Parents of high school seniors, rest assured, I work well with teens as well, making the experience very laid back and fun, in order to capture their personalities during their time with me. Even boys, who typically do not enjoy having their picture taken, have often commented that they actually had FUN during their senior portrait session! Once you book your session, I will spend time getting to know your family through my online portrait questionnaire. This is extremely helpful to me as I plan your session to ensure I capture your loved ones in the most natural way.
